Transport of a giant drill in Vinzel to draw hot water

On Friday, October 14, 2022, our team was pleased to carry out the transport of a huge drilling rig intended to dig a 2300 meter deep well in Vinzel. This drilling machine arrives from the geothermal site of Lavey-les-Bains, where a similar mission was carried out, without success, due to insufficient water flow. But hopes are higher for this geothermal project in Vinzel, led by the company EnergeÔ: the rock is less hard and seismic investigations have confirmed that water was indeed circulating in the ground.

The exceptional convoy used to transport the drilling machine left from Tolochenaz and was 26 meters long, 4.5 meters high and 3.6 meters wide. Too high for the highway, the convoy had to use the cantonal roads, passing through towns such as Nyon and Lausanne. This did not scare the driver Cyril Martin, accompanied by his colleagues Steven Carnot and Claude Chatelan driving the escort vehicles at the front and rear of the convoy. They are used to this type of exceptional transport, which they carry out every week.

Eventually, the geothermal water might be used for the heating network of the district of Eikenøtt, in Gland. But for the time being, we have to wait for the first verdict, which will be given in about 60 days.

More information on this exceptional transport is available in the articles of 20 minutes and La Côte, as well as in the report realized by La Télé.
